About the Program

Program Goals: Peaceful Valley wants to see more organic farmers nationwide supplying their local communities with seasonal, organic produce. In this endeavor, Peaceful Valley is offering deep discounts to selected Freshman Farmer applicants over a four year period to help get new organic farmers on their feet! In return, these farmers will be sharing their successes, challenges, and learnings on the blog with the goal of creating a resource center for future farmers!
Farmer Profiles & Blogs: Read the profiles the Freshman Farmers who have enthusiastically taken on the challenge of starting a new organic farm! Learn about their day-to-day lives on the farm through their blogs (or select an individual farm’s blog to the right).
Tips, Trick & Financials: So what does is really take to start an organic farm? Throughout the season the Freshman Farmers will be writing about the tips & tricks of farming as well as compiling short, instructional videos. Furthermore, on a monthly basis they’ll be letting us in on their costs and budgets is the farm financials section of the website.
Application: The application to become a Freshman Farmer becomes available each November and is due in December. Sign-up for the Freshman Farmer RSS feed and you’ll be notified when we blog about the application becoming available.

Three farms are starting from scratch.

They are turning the dirt and hoping to be successful enough to turn a profit, and to become a valuable part of their communities as suppliers of organically grown food.

Peaceful Valley is giving them a head start by offering them special pricing as part of this Freshman Farmer program.
