Don’t Panic…

The growing season is over for us. It has been for a while since we pulled the last of the veggies out of the test field and turned off that branch of the irrigation. The trees are doing well and take as much attention as well-behaved teenagers with social lives of their own. It’s a society of mutual respect.
The stuccoing continues. I spare you more gray pictures. We do have a shiny red mixer now, though! We got the first coat on just before the first rain. The bale moisture level in the worst ones were well within tolerance. More stucco.
We are getting ready for amendments and cover crop. We need to add a bunch of gypsum (~110 lbs per 1000 sf). The thing is that the stuff we use has to be on the OMRI list in order to maintain our CCOF certification. That’s proving a little harder than I had thought. I have some feelers out, so we’ll see. I still need to identify what I’ll use, then update my Operating Systems Plan, get approval, and then I can put it in the ground.
The irony will be funny one day. I pushed hard to get a certification we can’t really use yet. Now I’m worried I won’t find organic, um, rock in time to be consistent with the certification.
Better go stucco.

I use Premium 97 Solution Grade Gypsum from Diamond K. They also have other types of lime. You can check them out at http://www.diamondkgypsum.com and see who they closest distributor is.
Good luck with your farm.
Thanks Adam. Sarah at Peaceful Valley just gave me a call and said they were getting some Diamond K in for us. That and our sod buster cover crop and we should be good to go for he winter.
